The Recorded History of Craps

The background of Craps dates all the way back to a dice game referred to as Hazard, which goes all the way back to Bernard de Mandeville in New Orleans in Eightteen Thirteen. Hazard is believed to be a descendant of Azzahr, which means 'the die' a game played by Arabs.

The game developed as it traveled from the Arab countries to Europe and then to England. By the early eighteenth century, formal game rules for Hazard had been developed. France adopted the British version of Hazard and is believed to have been brought to the new world by early French colonists. In the mid-18th century, when the English defeated the French in British North America, the French colonizers migrated to Louisiana. Dice were enjoyed on river boats, casinos and wharfs and a modernized 'US' style of Craps was created. The game headed west and is a favored game that is competed in all over the U.S. and around the planet.

The name 'Craps' is believed to be a French articulation of the term crabs, which refers to a pair of ones. There are 2 basic types of Craps that are played-street Craps and bank Craps. Street caps, correctly named seeing as it's bet on the streets is where a tosser makes a point and then attempts to roll that point. The betting is made either for or opposed to the shooter and another player has to cover the bet for the craps game to carry on.

In bank Craps, which is the familiar game, played in betting houses, the casino backs the game. The participants compete with the casino-the casino covers all of the wagers of all of the individuals. Craps used to be a very popular casino game but in the past twenty years had divided itself and other games, such as poker and twenty-one became even more popular. However, Craps is experiencing a come back in popularity once again in online casinos and in real world casinos.
